Statement by Counsellor Yao Shaojun of the Chinese Delegation during the Interactive Dialogue at the 3rd Committee in the course of 71st Session of the General Assembly with the Special Rapporteur of the HRC on the Situation of Human Rights in the DPRK

2016-10-27 22:37

Madam Chair,

China always holds the view that countries should deal with differences in the area of human rights through constructive dialogue and cooperation and is against politicizing the issue of human rights. China hopes that the international community will conduct dialogue and cooperation with the countries concerned in a concerted effort towards promotion of protection of human rights.

China is committed to the objective of denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, maintenance of its peace and stability and resolution of issues through dialogue and consultations. We believe that discussion of issues of human rights in DPRK should contribute to promoting dialogue, developing mutual trust and relaxation of tensions and thus play a positive role in maintaining peace and stability of the peninsula, rather than the opposite. We hope that the all the parties concerned, including Mr. Quintana, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in DPRK, will do more to contribute to promoting dialogue and cooperation and easing of tension of the peninsula.

Thank you, Madam Chair.
