2020-03-30 03:39

The UN Security Council met on 30 March 2020 via video-conference chaired by the Presidency of the Council, H.E. Mr. Zhang Jun, on the Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question.

Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Mr. Nickolay Mladenov delivered the quarterly Secretary General's report to Council Members on the implementation of Resolution 2334(2016).

Council members discussed developments on the ground including in the context of the outbreak of COVID-19.

They welcomed ongoing Israeli-Palestinian coordination to address this common challenge and called for the intensification of the efforts by the parties to respond to COVID-19, in line with their respective obligations.

They commended the UN for its efforts to support this coordination and the Palestinian people at this critical time, including given the particular vulnerability of the Gaza Strip, which is already facing a dire humanitarian situation.
