Statement by Chinese Counselor Ms. Zhang Dan at the 3rd Committee of the 64th Session of the General Assembly on Explanation of Vote after the Vote on Draft Resolution L. 47 (The Right to Development)

2009-11-19 16:30

New York, 19 November 2009

Mr. Chairman,

The Chinese delegation supports international efforts to advance the right to development and has voted in favor of draft resolution L. 47.

Development is one of the three pillars of the work of the UN and the right to development is an inalienable human right. The Chinese delegation appreciates the work of the working group on the right to development and supports the high level task force in continuing with the third phase of its work. We hope that the Human Rights Council will give more support in this regard.

We call on countries and the international community to strive for greater acceptance and realization of the right to development, promote effective international cooperation, eliminate obstacles to development and mainstream the right to development in policies and operational activities of the United Nations, its specialized agencies and funds and programs, as well as in the policies and strategies of the international financial system and multilateral trade systems.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
