On June 23, the Business Meeting of the UN Military and Police Advisor Community (MPAC) was held in the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in New York. Seventy-four military and police advisors from 62 UN permanent missions and some international organizations attended the meeting. MPAC business meetings have never gathered so many participants before. Ambassador Li Baodong, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, addressed the meeting.

Ambassador Li said that China places great emphasis on multilateralism and collective security, and firmly supports the irreplaceable leading role played by the United Nations in peacekeeping operations. Over the past 63 years, the UN peacekeeping operations have scored great achievements in promoting international peace and security, and won the wide acclaim from the international community. At the same time, however, UN peacekeeping operations are also faced with many challenges, which call for Member States to address jointly through stronger communication and coordination. It is important to ensure a smooth transition from peacekeeping to peacebuilding, development and reconstruction, and work for the ultimate realization of world peace, prosperity and stability.

Ambassador Li commended the positive and unique role played by MPAC in UN peacekeeping operations. He pointed out that, as a professional forum for peacekeeping, MPAC has put forward a lot of feasible and constructive advice in this area. He hoped that MPAC will come up with more valuable ideas and recommendations on issues such as reform of UN peacekeeping operations, and make greater contribution to UN peacekeeping endeavors.
