On November 5, the First Committee of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted the two resolutions on “Further practical measures for the prevention of an arms race in outer space” and “No first placement of weapons in outer space” proposed by China, the Russian Federation and other countries. The resolutions call on all parties to strengthen the peaceful uses of outer space, prevent an arms race in outer space, and build a community with a shared future for mankind in outer space. This is the eighth consecutive year that the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind has been included in the resolutions of the First Committee of the General Assembly. China's Ambassador for Disarmament Affairs Shen Jian said at the meeting that the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, put forward by China, is the crystallization of the wisdom of the UN Member States, a global public good, and the embodiment of true multilateralism. To build a community with a shared future for mankind in outer space is to commit to maintaining a peaceful, secure, open, and cooperative outer space and to ensure that all humankind can share the dividends of security and development in outer space. This concept, which enjoys broad consensus and meets the trend of the times, fully reflects the international community’s aspiration to safeguard the common security of mankind in outer space, and is supported and recognized by the majority of countries. China will continue to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind jointly with other countries. |
