2021-09-03 17:32

On September 3, Ambassador Dai Bing had a virtual meeting with Mr. Selwin Hart, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Climate Action. They exchanged views on the high-level meeting on climate change during the 76th session of the General Assembly and the 26th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

Ambassador Dai pointed out that China attaches great importance to the high-level meeting on climate change initiated by Secretary-General Guterres, and will actively participate and work with all parties for the success of the meeting. China has made great efforts in addressing climate change and scored remarkable achievements in this regard. President Xi Jinping announced last year the vision of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality of China, and we are delivering on our promise and pushing forward the implementation. At the same time, China is ready to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations, promote the international community to implement the consensus of the Paris Agreement, adhere to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, urge developed countries to fulfill their commitments on climate finance, technology and capacity building, and create conditions for the success of COP26.

Mr. Hart said that the UN highly appreciates China's leadership role in international cooperation to address climate change and is looking forward to the attendance of the Chinese representatives at the high-level meeting on climate change. The UN Secretariat will strengthen coordination and communication with China to jointly promote this meeting to forge political consensus among countries, demonstrate multilateralism, solidarity and confidence, help COP26 achieve positive results and effectively address the global climate change challenge.
