On Feb 26, Ambassador Zhang Jun, in his capacity as incoming President of the Security Council for March 2020, met with Ambassador Bashar Jaafari, Permanent Representative of Syrian Arab Republic to the UN. Ambassador Zhang said that China is to assume the presidency of the Security Council for March 2020. Upholding fairness, openness and transparency, China looks forward to working with Syria towards political settlement of hotspot issues. Amb. Bashar Jaafari thanked China for reaching out, expressed his support for China’s work as Council President of March, and his hope that China could continue attaching importance to Syria’s concerns and promote the Security Council to play a constructive role on the issue of Syria.
