Ambassador Dai Bing: China firmly opposes any unilateral coercive measures

2020-10-16 11:23

On 16th October, a formal meeting of the Fifth Committee of the 75th session of the General Assembly was held to review the agenda item of improving the financial situation. The Deputy Representative of China to the UN, Ambassador. Dai Bing attended and took the floor.

Ambassador. Dai Bing says that, China, along with the majority of Member States, understands the economic and financial difficulties facing some developing countries and supports the General Assembly in making necessary allowance for their situation in accordance with the relevant provisions the UN Charter. China firmly opposes any unilateral coercive measures which violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, international law, and the basic norms of international relations. Due to these measures, Venezuela cannot pay its contributions despite its ability and willingness to pay. This has affected its rights and interests in the UN. China hopes the Secretariat could make every effort to assist Venezuela in paying contributions and ensure its equal participation in the work of the General Assembly. This is also helpful to addressing the financial difficulties of the UN. This should not become a political tool of the Host Country to bash specific countries.
