2021-10-22 10:13

On October 21, Ambassador Zhang Jun, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, held a press conference. When answering the questions from the media, he mentioned that the restoration of the People’s Republic of China’s lawful seat in the United Nations holds special significance for both China and the UN.

Ambassador Zhang said that over the past five decades, China has scored great achievements in its national development, played an increasingly bigger role in international affairs, and made important contribution to world peace and development. To commemorate the historic event, China has held, and will continue to hold various kinds of events to celebrate the anniversary. On October 25, a big commemorative conference will be held in Beijing.

Ambassador Zhang stressed that the 50th anniversary will be a new starting point for China-UN cooperation. Moving forward, China will firmly champion multilateralism, uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and support the UN to play a bigger role. We will further participate in global development cooperation, implement the Global Development Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, and share China’s development opportunities with other countries. In doing so, China will make new contribution to implementing the 2030 Agenda and achieving common development. We will work together with countries around the world to jointly address global challenges like COVID-19 and climate change, and make our world safer, greener and more beautiful. We will play our unique role as a major country, uphold fairness and justice, shoulder our due responsibilities, promote political and diplomatic settlement of disputes, oppose hegemony and bullying practices, and help the UN advance on the right course forward.
