Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan's Statement on US Remark on Terrorist Suspects of Chinese Nationality Detained in Guantanamo

2004-08-17 00:00

Q: On August 12th, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said at a joint interview with Japanese journalists that the terrorist suspects of Chinese nationality detained in Guantanamo would not be sent back to China and the US was considering where to send them. What’s your comment on this?

A: The terrorist force of “East Turkistan”, as a part of the international terrorist forces, poses a grave threat to the international community, including China and the US, and people’s lives and property. The US side should proceed from the overall interests of international anti-terrorism cooperation and China-US relations and act cautiously in accordance with the norms of international law, so as to avoid sending any wrong signals to the terrorist force of “East Turkistan”.
