Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao's Remarks on Taiwan's announcement of the resumption of its so-called "diplomatic relations" with Saint Lucia

2007-05-11 00:00

Q: The Taiwan Authorities has declared that Taiwan has resumed the so-called "diplomatic relations" with Saint Lucia. What's your comment on this?

A: It is reported that Saint Lucia and Taiwan have resumed their so-called "diplomatic relations". This move is a brazen violation of the principles of the communiqué on establishing diplomatic relations between China and Saint Lucia and a gross interference in China's internal affairs. We express our indignation and opposition to that. China's Ambassador to Saint Lucia has been instructed to make solemn representations and strong protest to the Saint Lucia Government, urging it to observe the principles established in the communiqué on establishing diplomatic relations between China and Saint Lucia signed in 1997, promptly correct its wrong decision and return to the "one China" policy. Otherwise, it must take full responsibility for all the consequences resulted thereof.

The Taiwan authority has been practicing an unscrupulous policy of "dollar diplomacy" in the international community, attempting to create "two Chinas" and "one China, one Taiwan" .Such activities are absolutely unpopular and will never succeed.
