Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Anifah Aman of Malaysia

On February 23, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Anifah Aman of Malaysia in New York.

Wang Yi said the two sides successfully commemorated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-Malaysia diplomatic relationship last year. The leaders of both countries have maintained close contacts, charting the course for China-Malaysia relationship. I hope the two sides continue to strengthen bilateral high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation, focus on speeding up the construction of the two parks in the two countries, promote cooperation in defense, security and law enforcement, and enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The Chinese side firmly supports the building of the community of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and ASEAN's leading role in regional cooperation. China hopes that as the rotating presidency of ASEAN this year, Malaysia could play a positive role in maintaining and promoting the sound development momentum of China-ASEAN relationship.

Anifah said that the Malaysian side attaches great importance to Malaysia-China relationship and takes China as the most important strategic cooperative partner of Malaysia. The successful celebration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Malaysia-China diplomatic relationship by both sides last year brought the bilateral relationship to a new level. Malaysia is looking forward to maintaining the momentum of high-level mutual visits, constantly enhance mutual trust and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields. The Malaysian side supports and will actively participate in the building of the Maritime Silk Road, and is willing to play a positive role in promoting ASEAN-China practical cooperation so as to maintain the overall picture of the sound development of ASEAN-China relationship.
