On February 23, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with President Sam Kahamba Kutesa of the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly at the UN headquarters in New York.

Wang Yi expressed that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN, and peace and development, as two main themes, are very prominent issues, which the international community needs to join efforts to handle. As for the issue of peace, it is hoped that all parties could, by commemorating the 70th anniversary of the UN, earnestly sum up the historical experience and explore the effective path for safeguarding global peace and security under the new situation. With regard to the issue of development, China attaches importance to and support the initiative and action of the UN, and will actively participate in the negotiation on the post-2015 development agenda, the conference on climate change in Paris and other courses and maintain the just and legitimate rights and interests of vast developing countries.

Sam Kahamba Kutesa said that this year is of milestone significance to the UN and the UN backs China and relevant parties to together well organize the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the victory of the world anti-fascist war and the founding of the UN. The UN Security Council (UNSC) open debate proposed by China witnessed active participation by all parties, which proved China's vigor and energy as the rotating presidency of the UNSC. This year, the UN will focus on the three major development agendas: first, the negotiation on formulating the post-2015 development agenda; second, the development financing conference in Addis Ababa this July; third, strive to complete the negotiation on the new agreement at the climate change conference in Paris at the end of this year. The UN hopes to obtain China's consistent and active support.
