On February 23, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Murray McCully of New Zealand at the UN headquarters in New York.

Wang Yi expressed that China and New Zealand are good friends and allies in the World War II. Both sides should enhance coordination within the framework of the UN Security Council (UNSC), review and summarize historical lessons together and better fulfill the responsibilities as the UNSC members, so as to maintain peace and security in the current world. President Xi Jinping paid a successful and historic visit to your country last year, elevating China-New Zealand relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership and charting the course for the future development of bilateral relations. Both sides should earnestly implement the important consensus reached by leaders of both countries, intensify high-level exchanges and constantly deepen exchanges and cooperation including economy, trade, defense, judicature, law enforcement, pursuit evasion and recovery of illicit assets as well as people-to-people and cultural engagement, thus to better benefit both peoples.

Murray McCully said that it is necessary for the international community to take the 70th anniversary of the victory of the World War II as an opportunity to sum up historical lessons and better look into the future on that basis. New Zealand congratulates China on successfully holding the UNSC open debate and on showing excellent leadership at the Debate, and will keep communication with China in this regard. Bilateral relations are special and friendly with a strong momentum.
