On the evening of September 19, 2016 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met in New York with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Li Keqiang expressed that China has always been an active supporter to and participant in the cause of the UN, as well as a firm defender of the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. China is willing to continuously support the UN in playing a key role and contributing to the cause of world peace and development.

Li Keqiang pointed out that this year marks the first year for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the first year since the Paris Agreement on Climate Change was adopted. As the largest developing country, China is ready to continue to work with the rest of the world to shoulder the responsibility within its capability, and make unremitting efforts to enhance and improve global governance as well as achieve win-win and shared results. China also hopes the UN could effectively fulfill its responsibility of international peace and put the settlement of development issue as its priority in order to let people of all countries benefit from the development outcomes.

Ban Ki-moon welcomed Li Keqiang to attend the high-level meetings of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly. He expressed that China plays an important role in international affairs. The UN appreciates China's positive participation in important agendas including climate change and sustainable development, as well as its important contributions to advancing South-South Cooperation and carrying out international peacekeeping operations. The UN is ready to closely cooperate with China to address the common challenges faced by the humankind, so as to promote world peace and development.
