Reception in Commemoration of the 55th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China Held by the Permanent Mission of China to UN

In commemoration of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Ambassador Wang Guangya, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, held a reception at the Mission of China to the United Nations on 28 September 2004. Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing who is at the head of the Chinese Delegation to the 59th session of the United Nations General Assembly attended the reception. Around 300 other guests were also at the reception, including President Jean Ping of the current session of the United Nations General Assembly, UN Deputy Secretary-General Ms. Frechette, foreign ministers and vice foreign ministers from a number of countries attending the current UNGA session, permanent representatives and diplomats, officials from UN and other international organizations and agencies, local government officials and prominent personages, Chinese and foreign correspondents and overseas Chinese representatives.

September 28 also marks the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional celebration in China. With this double happiness, the reception was permeated with joyous atmosphere. The guests heartily congratulated China for its great achievements made since the founding of the People's Republic of China and especially since the reform and opening up. They highly appraised the important role played by China in all areas of UN affairs. They expressed their sincere hope that China would become more prosperous and develop further. The presence of Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing brought the reception to its climax. He was surrounded by guests full of festive congratulations and good wishes for China's National Day and for his successful visit.
