Statement by Mr. Li Linlin,Chinese delegate,At the Sixth Committee of the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly On United Nations Programme of Assistance in the Teaching, Study, Dissemination and Wider Appreciation of International Law

2012-10-24 04:50

Mr. Chairman,

The Chinese delegation wishes to thank Secretary-General for the report on Teaching, Study, Dissemination and Wider Appreciation of International Law.

In the view of my delegation, promoting rule of law is an important task of the United Nations, while teaching, study and dissemination of international law represent an indispensable tool for accomplishing such a task. Relevant UN organs have carried out fruitful work in promoting the teaching, study, dissemination and wider appreciation of international law. In recent years, numerous diplomats and young scholars have benefited from the UN International Law Fellowship and regional training courses, and the UN Audiovisual Library with its constantly updated contents has provided practitioners of international law all over the world with bountiful resources. Such programs and organs have played their due role in capacity building in the field of international law.

Mr. Chairman,

China has a great number of students and researchers of international law and is ready and willing to contribute to the teaching, study and dissemination of international law. In the past year, many Chinese scholars made lectures videos for the UN Audiovisual Library. The Chinese Government has decided to make donation of 30,000 $ to the Programme of Assistance aimed at supporting the UN International Law Fellowship, regional training courses and the UN Audiovisual Library. We hope the relevant work of UN will produce greater results.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
