Chinese Candidate, Vice President of the All-China Women's Federation Ms. XIA Jie Successfully Elected to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) for the Term 2021-2024

On November 9, Ms. XIA Jie, Chinese candidate and Vice President of the All-China Women’s Federation, was successfully elected as a member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) for the term 2021-2024 at the 21st Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. China sincerely appreciates the support of the states parties and congratulates other elected members.

China attaches great importance to women’s development, thoroughly implements its basic national policy of equality between men and women, earnestly implements the Beijing Declaration and Program for Action, earnestly fulfills its obligation under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, actively participates in international women’s exchanges and cooperation, achieving historic progress in the cause of women and making important contributions to the development of women worldwide. China will continue to actively participate in global women's cooperation and make greater contributions to gender equality and women's empowerment.

The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) is a body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. It consists of 23 independent experts elected by the meeting of States Parties for a term of four years. China signed and ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women in 1980. Chinese candidates have been elected members of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women ten times since 1982.
