Statement by Minister Counselor Wang Hongbo of the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations at the UNICEF Pledging Conference

2015-02-05 05:09

Mr. Chairman,

The Chinese government attaches great importance to its long-term cooperative relationship with UNICEF and has always supported UNICEF's efforts for child survival and development all over the world. China pledged 1.5 million US dollars to UNICEF in 2014. In 2015, China's pledge will not be lower than the amount of 2014, and the pledge will be disbursed as soon as possible after formal approval by the Chinese National People's Congress. In the future, China will continue to support UNICEF's work and, to the best of our ability, gradually increase our contributions to UNICEF's core resources.

The stability and increase of resources, especially core resources, are effective guarantees of UNICEF's flexibility in delivering its mandate as well as its prompt and effective responses to the needs of program countries. The Chinese delegation calls on member states to continue to maintain and scale up their contributions to UNICEF, especially to its core resources and, whenever feasible, disburse the funds promptly and honor their multi-year commitments. We also hope that UNICEF will continue to strengthen its partnership building, intensify its financing efforts, seek innovative funding models, and enhance program accountability and results-monitoring, so as to effectively ensure the efficacy and quality of the implementation of national programs.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
