First of all, I wish to congratulate Poland on assuming the presidency of the Security Council for this month. China also wants to thank High Representative Mr. Inzko for his briefing.

China respects the sovereignty, independence, national unity and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We respect the choice made by the people for the future of their country. We support the peaceful coexistence of different ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina and their effort for common development. We welcome the efforts made by Bosnia and Herzegovina in promoting national reconciliation and economic and social development. We hope that various ethnic groups of the country will be fully engaged in consolidating the progress made in the political process and social development, seek consensus through dialogue and consultation, resolve differences through peaceful means and fully implement the Dayton Peace Agreement, so as to achieve greater development on all fronts and truly deliver peace dividend to people of different ethnic groups.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is an important country in the Balkans. Its stable development and ethnic harmony is in the common interests of the countries in the region and the international community. The international community should pay attention to the views and accommodate the concerns of various parties, take a balanced and prudent approach, and play a constructive role in promoting national reconciliation and long-term stability and development in the country.

China welcomes the efforts by High Representative Mr. Inzko in advancing the country's political process. We hope that he will play an active role in promoting the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement within the purview of his mandate. We hope that the EU-led peacekeeping force will continue to strengthen communication and cooperation with the parties concerned and help the country achieve lasting peace and stability. China is ready to work with the rest of the international community to make due contribution to lasting peace, stability and development in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
