On November 18, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Quito with President of National Assembly Gabriela Rivadeneira of Ecuador.

When Xi Jinping arrived at the National Assembly, Gabriela Rivadeneira warmly greeted him at the entrance. The honor guard lined up on both sides of the red carpet to welcome the distinguished Chinese guest.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Ecuador enjoy traditional friendship. Yesterday, President Rafael Correa and I decided to elevate China-Ecuador relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The Chinese side has always viewed its relations with Ecuador from a strategic and long-term perspective, and is willing to, together with Ecuador, thoroughly push forward practical cooperation in various fields to bring more tangible benefits to the two peoples.

Xi Jinping pointed out that friendly cooperation between the two legislative bodies is an important part of China-Ecuador comprehensive strategic partnership. In recent years, the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Ecuadorian National Assembly have maintained close exchanges and cooperation, which has played an important role in promoting mutual understanding and enhancing friendly relations. The legislative bodies of the two countries should continue to carry out exchanges and dialogues, intensify friendly exchanges at all levels, and strengthen experience exchanges in legislative supervision, governance and administration of state affairs and other aspects, so as to push for the continuous development of China-Ecuador comprehensive strategic partnership.

Gabriela Rivadeneira expressed that she warmly welcomes President Xi Jinping's visit to Ecuador's National Assembly. At present, Ecuador-China brotherly relationship has maintained rapid development. The Ecuadorian side appreciates China's support in its post-disaster reconstruction and national construction. Taking President Xi Jinping's visit this time as an opportunity to establish Ecuador-China comprehensive strategic partnership will certainly boost further development of bilateral cooperation in various fields including economy, trade and people-to-people and cultural engagement. The National Assembly of Ecuador is willing to intensify exchanges and cooperation with the NPC in a bid to jointly push forward Ecuador-China relations as well as Latin America-China relations.
