Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with National Security Advisor U Thaung Tun of Myanmar

On April 19, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with visiting National Security Advisor U Thaung Tun of Myanmar.

Wang Yi said that China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors. China has always pursued a friendly policy towards Myanmar, and supported the people of Myanmar to take a development path suitable to its national conditions. President U Htin Kyaw of Myanmar had a successful official visit to China, and State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi is coming to China for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Both sides should cooperate closely, well implement the achievements of talks between the two heads of state, well prepare the proposed high-level meetings, and propel cooperation projects such as Kyauk Phyu Special Economic Zone, so as to enrich the connotations of China-Myanmar relations, promote the economic development of Myanmar and improve the people's livelihood in the country.

Wang Yi expressed that the Chinese side supports Myanmar's efforts in advancing the domestic peace process, supports Myanmar to uphold the Panglong Spirit, achieve national reconciliation through dialogues and consultations and earnestly safeguard peace and stability in the China-Myanmar border area. China will continue to play its constructive role to this end.

U Thaung Tun said that the Myanmar side attaches great importance to developing relations with China, and is willing to work along with Chinese side to well implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, and promote Myanmar-China relations for a further development. The Myanmar side appreciates China's active supports for the peace process in Myanmar, as well as the effective assistance in regional and international affairs, and stands ready to strengthen cooperation with China and safeguard the stability in Myanmar-China border area.
