Wang Yi Holds Telephone Talks with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson of the UK

On August 4, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks at request with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson of the UK, exchanging views on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

Speaking highly of China's positive role in the Peninsula nuclear issue, Boris Johnson showed deep concern over the continuously escalating situation, and expressed the hope for an effective approach of negotiation at an early date.

Wang Yi expounded on China's principled stance, and stressed that China has made enormous efforts in safeguarding international nuclear non-proliferation system, and will continuously, comprehensively and strictly implement the UN Security Council resolutions concerning the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Wang Yi called for all parties to take respective due responsibilities. The "suspension-for-suspension" proposal put forward by China is conducive to curbing the escalating tension, and contributes to finding out a breakthrough to resume peace talks. It is hoped that all parties could give serious consideration and actively respond to it.
