Wang Yi Attends 24th ARF Foreign Ministers' Meeting

2017-08-07 10:50

On August 7, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the 24th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) held in Manila, the Philippines.

Wang Yi expressed that at present, the Asia-Pacific region has maintained a peaceful development momentum, and in the meantime, it also faces increasingly severe terrorism, transnational crime, natural disasters and other non-traditional security threats. China advocates a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security concept and the establishment of a new type of international relations with win-win cooperation as the core. All relevant parties should strive to strengthen security dialogue and cooperation in the following three aspects: first, support security with dialogue. All relevant parties should enhance communication and exchanges, and clear up misunderstanding and misjudgment, and advance understanding and mutual trust. Second, promote security with cooperation. Early this year, China issued a white paper on China's Policies on Asia-Pacific Security Cooperation, fully demonstrating the country's firm determination to safeguard regional peace and stability. Third, consolidate security with frameworks. All relevant parties should strengthen coordination among regional multilateral security mechanisms with ASEAN as the core, such as the ARF, the East Asia Summit (EAS) and the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting-Plus, push forward the discussion on improving regional security frameworks, and support the ARF in progressively exploring a preventive diplomacy that fits regional reality.

The meeting announced the Statement on Enhancing Cooperation in Addressing Drug Problems proposed by China and the Philippines.
