On September 4, 2017, President Xi Jinping met in Xiamen with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of Thailand, who was in China for the Dialogue between Emerging Market Economies and Developing Countries.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Thailand are as close as members of a family, and the two peoples enjoy brotherly relations. As a close and friendly neighboring country of Thailand, China attaches high importance to developing China-Thailand friendly relations, and will, as always, respect the development path Thailand chooses in accordance with its own national conditions, and play greater roles in international and regional affairs, in a bid to promote bilateral strategic cooperative partnership for greater development. Both sides should maintain close high-level exchanges and take care of each other's core interests and major concerns. China appreciates Thailand's active participation in the "Belt and Road" construction cooperation, and is willing to, together with Thailand, well implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting the "Belt and Road" Construction and the Joint Action Plan on China-Thailand Strategic Cooperation in the next five years, strengthen cooperation in areas of investment, railways, Internet finance, digital economy and e-commerce, expand personnel exchanges, cement tourism and local communication, and enhance law enforcement security, and anti-terrorism cooperation in particular. Both sides need to deepen coordination and cooperation within multilateral frameworks including the United Nations, the Asia Cooperation Dialogue and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation to make positive contributions to safeguarding regional and world peace, stability and development. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and 2018 marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN strategic partnership. China hopes that Thailand will exert its unique influence to elevate the Lancang-Mekong cooperation and China-ASEAN relationship to higher levels.

Prayut Chan-o-cha expressed that Thailand is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with China, deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation, consolidate political mutual trust, expand economic and trade exchanges, promote mutual investment, enhance personnel exchanges and strengthen cooperation in such fields as education, scientific research and infrastructure. Thailand supports and will actively participate in the "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by China, the Lancang-Mekong cooperation and other important propositions that may promote the common development in the region.

After the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of the Joint Action Plan on China-Thailand Strategic Cooperation and bilateral cooperation documents covering the "Belt and Road" construction, railway and other areas.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended the meeting.
