On February 9, 2018, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia co-chaired the 3rd Meeting of the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Indonesia in Beijing.

Wang Yi expressed that as important neighboring countries, both China and Indonesia are major developing countries as well as emerging economies in the world. The two countries share extensive common interests at bilateral, regional and international levels, and the Chinese side highly values its relations with Indonesia. In recent years, under the direct guidance of the two heads of state, both countries have taken the alignment of development strategies as the mainline to comprehensively promote practical cooperation in various fields, making the development of bilateral relations embark on the "fast track". As this year marks the 5th anniversary of the establishment of China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership, China is willing to, together with the Indonesian side, further intensify high-level exchanges and jointly promote the "Belt and Road" cooperation, in a bid to push forward bilateral relations for comprehensive and in-depth development. Since the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway is an important landmark project in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" by China and Indonesia, China stands ready to intensify coordination with the Indonesian side to push the project for the full building at an early date. The Chinese side also stands ready to discuss with Indonesia about cooperation in the project of the construction of three economic corridors in North Sulawesi, North Sumatra and North Kalimantan.

Wang Yi expressed that valuing Indonesia's important role in the ASEAN, China stands ready to make joint efforts with the country and take the 15th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN strategic partnership this year as an opportunity to promote the improvement and upgrading of China-ASEAN relations, and discuss new cooperation patterns under the East ASEAN Growth Area framework, so as to inject new impetus into the building of ASEAN community and the regional integration process. China stands ready to, together with Indonesia, actively shoulder international responsibilities, join hands in coping with major international and regional issues, and jointly build a new type of international relations.

Retno Marsudi expressed that China is an important strategic partner of Indonesia. Indonesia-China relations have enjoyed rapid development in recent years, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples. The Indonesian side stands ready to, together with the Chinese side, jointly well plan high-level exchanges, push forward the integration between the Global Maritime Axis and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, actively promote the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, three economic corridors in North Sulawesi, North Sumatra and North Kalimantan and other practical cooperation, and intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to elevate bilateral relations to new stages. Indonesia welcomes China to actively participate in the cooperation in the East ASEAN Growth Area and supports the construction of ASEAN community. The country stands ready to further deepen ASEAN-China relations and jointly guide the direction for regional cooperation with China, so as to promote regional peace and stability.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional topics of common interest.
