Li Keqiang Attends China-Indonesia Business Summit and Delivers a Keynote Speech

On the evening of May 7, 2018 local time, Premier Li Keqiang attended the China-Indonesia Business Summit with Vice President Jusuf Kalla of Indonesia in Jakarta, and delivered a keynote speech.

Li Keqiang expressed that Indonesia is a major developing country with important significance and a representative of emerging market economies. China attaches great importance to developing relations with Indonesia. President Xi Jinping successfully visited Indonesia in 2013, which charted the course for the development of bilateral relations. Under the joint efforts made by people from all walks of life of both countries, China-Indonesia relations have embarked on a fast lane of development. Economic and trade cooperation has been the most vibrant and productive component of bilateral cooperation.

Li Keqiang pointed out that my visit this time aims to further consolidate the sound momentum of the development of bilateral relations and promote bilateral practical cooperation to new stages.

Both sides will expand cooperation in investment and production capacity. China is willing to better integrate the “Belt and Road” initiative with Indonesia’s "Global Maritime Fulcrum" vision, forge a batch of demonstration projects and support the Chinese enterprises in participating in the construction of Indonesia’s regional comprehensive economic corridors. China is ready to help Indonesia improve its infrastructure and discuss cooperation in such areas as ports, coastal economy, industrial processing and the building of overseas warehouses. China also welcomes Indonesia to establish investment promotion center in China.

Both sides will promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation. Both China and Indonesia support economic globalization and advocate free trade. The two countries safeguard the rules-based multilateral trade system and stand for resolving trade disputes through equal consultation. China is willing to import more competitive and featured products from Indonesia. Both sides agree to improve the level of trade facilitation, and vigorously develop cross-border e-commerce to build a bridge for cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises of both countries.

Both sides will further intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation. China stands ready to, together with Indonesia, widely carry out exchanges and cooperation in such areas as education, culture, tourism, media and sports, so as to make the ideas of peace, friendship and cooperation of both countries deeply root in the hearts of people. The two sides agree to deepen tourism cooperation, open more direct flights and work toward the goal of three million mutual visits annually.

Li Keqiang expressed that in recent years, China has maintained strategic composure and concentrated efforts to promote the supply-side structural reform, continuously made innovation in and improved macro-control and vigorously cultivated and developed new driving forces under the complex domestic and foreign environment. The economic operation has achieved stable and sound development. China has witnessed the thriving of the development of new driving forces, and broadly carried out mass entrepreneurship and innovation. At present, the contribution rate of new driving forces to economic growth exceeds 30 percent, and that to new employment reaches about 70 percent. Since the beginning of this year, the Chinese economy has continued its steady and sound development and made a good start. China has confidence and capabilities to maintain a medium-high growth rate and achieve high-quality development in the long term.

Li Keqiang stressed that this year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up. China will open a new course of reform and opening up. There is no end to the reform. Expanding opening up is an independent and inevitable choice for China. China will open up to a higher level and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results to a deeper level. A more prosperous and open China will certainly offer greater opportunities to the development of Indonesia and other countries in the world.

Jusuf Kalla expressed that the convening of the Indonesia-China Business Summit demonstrates the strong confidence of both countries’ business leaders in bilateral economic and trade development. China is welcome to continuously expand investment in Indonesia, expand two-way exports of products, and work with Indonesia to jointly boost the construction of regional comprehensive economic corridors, and deepen cooperation in such areas as tourism, digital economy, manufacturing, energy, environment and infrastructure. The governments of the two countries will formulate policies to create a better environment for bilateral investment and business operation.

Over 600 representatives from business circles of the two countries attended the Summit.
