Li Keqiang Meets with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Heng Swee Keat of Singapore

On the morning of May 23, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met at Ziguangge of Zhongnanhai with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Heng Swee Keat of Singapore.

Li Keqiang expressed that the current China-Singapore relations enjoy a sound momentum of development. The Chinese side is ready to work with the Singaporean side to continue to intensify high-level exchanges, better align the Belt and Road Initiative with the Singaporean side's development strategy, give full play to the role of bilateral cooperation mechanism at deputy prime minister level between the two countries, promote the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the third party market cooperation and deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, finance, smart city as well as cooperation between Chinese provinces and cities with Singapore, so as to promote bilateral relations and cooperation to a new level.

Li Keqiang stressed that China's opening up has not only enhanced the well-being of its own people but also created tremendous opportunities for the world's development. China will open its door wider and welcomes enterprises from all over the world, including Singapore, to expand their investment in China. China will continue to treat domestic and foreign-funded enterprises equally, constantly optimize the business environment, encourage fair competition and cooperation, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. The Chinese side is ready to work with the Singaporean side to safeguard rules-based free trade and promote peace and development in the region and the world at large.

Heng Swee Keat congratulated the People's Republic of China on the 70th anniversary of its founding. He said that next year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the two countries' diplomatic relations, and bilateral relations will stand at a higher starting point. The Singaporean side is willing to work with the Chinese side to strengthen high-level exchanges and deepen practical cooperation in various fields to advance bilateral relations to new highs. The Singaporean side is ready to play an active role in advancing relations between Association of Southeast Asian Nations and China.
