2020-02-21 21:36

During the third briefing on the epidemic control of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) held by the Chinese Foreign Ministry for diplomatic missions in China on 19 February, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu conveyed State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s verbal message to diplomatic envoys in China:

“Under the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping, the 1.4 billion Chinese people are making all-out efforts in fighting the novel coronavirus disease. China has swiftly put in place a national inter-agency mechanism, and acted resolutely with the most comprehensive, rigorous and thorough measures. We are fulfilling our responsibility for the life and health of the Chinese people and for global public health security. Our efforts are paying off. We have the full confidence, capacity and determination to defeat the epidemic.

Ruthless as the epidemic, we are deeply touched by the compassion shown to us at this challenging time. There is the valuable support and assistance from the international community. You and other diplomats in Beijing stand shoulder to shoulder with us in the fight. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to all the countries, international organizations and people across the world who have stood with us in tackling the epidemic.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the safety and well-being of foreign nationals in China, including foreign students. The Foreign Ministry is keeping close touch with all the foreign missions in China. Please be assured that we will take all necessary and effective measures to protect the safety and health of foreign friends living in China.

Thank you again for standing with China and the Chinese people at this moment.”
