Xi Jinping Meets with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob

2022-02-06 18:00

On the morning of February 6, 2022, President Xi Jinping met with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob, who came to China to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out, since I paid a state visit to Singapore in 2015, the bilateral strategic mutual trust has been constantly deepened, pragmatic cooperation has been continuously expanded, and our development interests have been closely integrated, thus vividly interpreting China-Singapore all-round cooperative partnership that keeps pace with the times. In the face of the global changes and the COVID-19 pandemic, both unseen in a century, China-Singapore relations need to buck the overall downward trend all the more and demonstrate vigor and vitality. Both sides should strengthen planning, deepen the synergy of development strategies, ensure the steady and long-term development of China-Singapore relations in the post-pandemic era, and make greater progress on the basis of past achievements, so as to better benefit the two peoples and promote regional prosperity and development.

Xi Jinping stressed, Singapore has been deeply involved in China's development since the beginning of the reform and opening-up. Currently, China is accelerating the construction of a new development pattern, and the two sides should take advantage of each other's strengths to pursue win-win cooperation. Singapore is welcome to play a greater role in China's economic "dual circulation" through the subnational cooperation mechanisms that it established with China's provinces and cities. The two sides should deepen cooperation in green development, strengthen cooperation in digital economy, smart cities, scientific and technological innovation and other fields, foster new growth points of cooperation, and inject new impetus into respective development. Efforts should be made to set a benchmark for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, strengthen the role of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in propping up the industrial and supply chains in the region. Efforts should be made to implement the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and jointly advance the process of regional integration. The two sides should jointly translate the Global Development Initiative into concrete actions, safeguard fairness and justice, and demonstrate responsibilities and commitment.

Halimah said, in 2008, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew came to China to attend the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, and I'm honored to come to China to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. The performance at the opening ceremony fully demonstrated China's outstanding ability and level in this respect. I believe that the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 will be held in a green and safe approach to promote international solidarity and cooperation. The foundation of Singapore-China ties is very solid, with the Suzhou Industrial Park, the Tianjin Eco-City and the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity representing the high level of Singapore-China cooperation. Singapore is willing to work with China for a shared future in the spirit of keeping pace with the times and seeking cooperation in solidarity. Singapore takes a positive view of the Global Development Initiative, and stands ready to work with China to strengthen green development, digital economy and other fields to promote regional integration.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and others were present at the meeting.
