2022-02-11 22:44

On February 11, 2022, Vice President Wang Qishan delivered a video speech at the High-Level Meeting of the "One Ocean" Summit.

Wang Qishan said, the ocean provides an important basis for humanity to survive and thrive, and the Maritime Silk Road in history presents a vivid portrayal of interaction, integration and mutually beneficial cooperation through the ocean among people of all nations along the route. Taking inspiration from history, President Xi Jinping put forward the initiatives of building a maritime community with a shared future and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. China is ready to actively synergize these initiatives with the "international maritime community" proposed by France and other bilateral and multilateral initiatives to increase their positive effects.

Wang Qishan stressed, joint efforts should be made to build a marine ecological civilization, deliver on the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, forge a Blue Partnership, strengthen prevention and control of marine environment pollution, protect marine biodiversity, and ensure a proper balance between the development and protection of the ocean. Joint efforts should be made to promote the development of the blue economy, optimize the spatial planning of the marine economy, promote the development and utilization of offshore renewable energy in an orderly manner, develop green and low-carbon maritime shipping industry, and enhance the capacity for maritime scientific and technological innovation. Joint efforts should be made to strengthen global marine governance, firmly uphold the international law including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and steadily push forward negotiations on a treaty on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction. Developed countries should transfer marine technologies to developing countries to ensure the benefit sharing of marine genetic resources. China is ready to take an active part in international cooperation on the onshore power supply service in port for ships engaged on international voyages.

Wang Qishan said, China has always been a promoter of sustainable marine development, a builder of global marine governance and a defender of international maritime order, and will work with other countries to build an ocean of peace, cooperation and beauty.

The "One Ocean" Summit was hosted by France, which holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. The High-Level Meeting of the Summit was held in Brest, France, and chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron.
