2022-07-29 23:45

On the afternoon of July 29, 2022, President Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

Xi Jinping pointed out, currently, under the intertwined impact of a pandemic and drastic changes both unseen in a century, the world is entering a new period of turbulence and transformation. The aspirations of people of all countries for development and security have become more urgent, and the call for international fairness and justice has grown only stronger. In the face of the complicated international situation, China and Iran have strengthened solidarity and cooperation, enhanced the common interests of the two sides, and safeguarded the legitimate rights and interests of the vast developing countries. China views China-Iran relations from a strategic perspective and stands ready to work with Iran to constantly push for new progress in the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership.

Xi Jinping stressed, the two sides should continue to firmly support each other on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns, and uphold non-interference in others' internal affairs, which is a basic norm governing international relations. It's important to maintain close communication on implementing the comprehensive cooperation plan between the two countries, actively advance practical cooperation in key areas, continue to carry out anti-pandemic cooperation, and strengthen communication and coordination in regional and international affairs. China has always supported Middle East countries in solving regional security issues through solidarity and coordination, and supported the people in the Middle East in exploring development paths independently. China is ready to strengthen communication and cooperation with Iran within such frameworks as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. China appreciates Iran's active support for the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the Global Security Initiative (GSI), and stands ready to work with Iran to promote the implementation of the initiatives and push for the development of the international order towards a more just and reasonable direction.

Raisi said, Iran and China jointly celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties last year. Over the past 50 years, bilateral cooperation has yielded important outcomes. He believes that with joint efforts of both sides, Iran-China relations will realize even higher-level development in the future. It is a priority and key part of Iran's established foreign policy to firmly deepen the Iran-China comprehensive strategic partnership. Both Iran and China oppose hegemonism and unilateralism, and reject interference in other countries' internal affairs, illegal unilateral sanctions and double standards. Iran firmly pursues the one-China principle and supports China in safeguarding its core interests. Iran highly appreciates China's important and active role in international and regional affairs, and supports the GDI and the GSI both put forward by China. Iran is ready to maintain close communication and coordination with China, safeguard international fairness and justice, defend the common interests of developing countries, and promote peace, security and development in the region and the world at large.
