Wang Yi Meets with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias

On August 3, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on the sidelines of the series of foreign ministers' meetings on East Asia cooperation in Phnom Penh.

Wang Yi said since the establishment of diplomatic relations 50 years ago, China-Greece relations have traveled an extraordinary journey. As friends of mutual respect and mutual trust and partners of win-win cooperation, the two countries have demonstrated the sense of responsibility of ancient civilizations, and achieved more substantive progress in building the China-Greece comprehensive strategic partnership, contributing their part to the building of the community with a shared future for mankind. Wang expressed the hope that the two countries will continue to enhance strategic mutual trust, support each other's legitimate demands, consolidate the political foundation of bilateral relations, and work jointly for a better China-Greece relationship in the next 50 years.

Wang Yi said China and Greece both stand for upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, safeguarding the international order underpinned by the international law, and practicing true multilateralism. China is ready to work with Greece to promote mutual appreciation, mutual learning and common progress among different civilizations, so as to contribute China and Greece's wisdom and strength to world peace and development. China appreciates Greece seeing China's development and rejuvenation in an objective and friendly way and upholding justice in international affairs, and hopes that Greece will continue to play a constructive role in promoting the sound and stable development of China-Europe relations.

Dendias said with mutual respect and understanding, Greece and China have successfully established a comprehensive strategic partnership, and continuously advanced practical cooperation in various fields. Greece attaches great importance to China's important influence in international affairs, thinks highly of China's positive contributions to global economic recovery and human civilization, sees China's development as huge opportunities, and is grateful for China’s firm support during Greece’s difficult times. Greece is delighted to see that with joint efforts, huge success has been achieved in the construction of Piraeus Port, making it possible for Greece build the largest port in Europe. Greece is ready to further deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, expand exports to China, and encourage Chinese enterprises to make continued investment in Greece. Greece remains committed to promoting sound and stable development of Europe-China relations.

Wang Yi said China stands ready to work with Greece to advance the three-year cooperation plan between the two countries, expand cooperation in areas like transportation, energy, communications, finance, and green and digital economy, push forward the construction of such landmark Belt and Road projects as Piraeus Port, make well preparations for the construction of the center for mutual learning between Chinese and Greek civilizations with a view to producing high-level achievements in inter-civilization cooperation, and increase direct flights between the two countries in an orderly manner to facilitate personnel exchanges and tourism cooperation. China will also share its development and market opportunities, support and encourage more Chinese investment in Greece, and hopes that Greece will provide a favorable business environment.

Wang Yi expounded on China's firm stance on the Taiwan question. Dendias said that Greece and China have shared position on safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, and upholding the international order. Greece will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China principle, and will not take any other option.
