Wang Yi Meets with Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

On September 19, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on the sidelines of the General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Both sides agreed to maintain close high-level exchanges, and carry forward and develop the unbreakable all-weather friendship between China and Pakistan.

Wang Yi said, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had a successful meeting on the sidelines of the Samarkand Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. They had friendly and in-depth exchanges, steering the course for the development of China-Pakistan relations and injecting strong impetus into China-Pakistan all-weather friendship. China is ready to work with Pakistan to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, jointly build a high-quality China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, forge flagship projects of Belt and Road cooperation, and accelerate the building of a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future.

Wang Yi said, currently, all the people throughout Pakistan are making all-out efforts to fight against severe floods, and they are also faced with heavy and complicated tasks in post-disaster reconstruction. The Chinese government and people will always stand with Pakistan, and firmly believe that under the leadership of the Pakistani government and with the concerted efforts of all sectors, Pakistan will be able to prevail over difficulties at an early date, achieve stronger, safer and more sustained development, and play a more important role in regional and global affairs. China hopes that Pakistan will follow through on the "enhanced version" of the security plan to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in Pakistan, thus providing a solid guarantee for pragmatic cooperation between the two sides.

Bilawal said that the upcoming 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is of historic and milestone significance. He is fully confident that the congress will be a complete success and boost China's efforts to seek greater prosperity. Pakistan always regards its relations with China as the cornerstone of its foreign policy. This has become a common understanding of the whole Pakistani society. Bilawal expressed appreciation for China's support to Pakistan in tackling the pandemic and floods. Pakistan is ready to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, maintain close strategic coordination, consolidate Pakistan-China all-weather strategic cooperative partnership, and deepen all-round cooperation between the two countries. Pakistan will continue to firmly pursue the one-China policy and stand firmly with China on all issues concerning China's core interests such as Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
