On October 13, 2022, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari over a boat accident in Nigeria.

Xi Jinping said that he was shocked to learn of the heavy casualties in the boat capsizing accident in the Anambra state of Nigeria, and would like to extend, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, deep condolences on the deaths of the victims and sincere sympathies to the bereaved families.
