Wang Yi Has a Phone Call with Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan of Singapore

On November 4, 2022, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan at request.

Wang Yi said, the Singaporean side extended congratulations twice on the successful 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the re-election of General Secretary Xi Jinping. That reflects the great importance Singapore attaches to China-Singapore relations and its understanding and recognition of the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. It also demonstrates the high level of China-Singapore relationship. The Chinese people, led by the new collective central leadership of the CPC with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, will strive in unity to embark on a new journey to build China into a modern socialist country in all respects and advance the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. Keeping pace with the times is the most distinctive feature of China-Singapore relations. China and Singapore can keep learning  from each other and contributing to each other's success in the process of respective modernization. China is ready to work with Singapore to maintain close high-level exchanges and resume personnel exchanges in a sound and orderly manner, so as to make China-Singapore relationship continue its leading and exemplary role in China's relations with other countries, especially with neighboring countries.

Wang Yi said, global challenges are now emerging one after another. China hopes that ASEAN countries will stay united, and take the opportunity of hosting the Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation, the Group of Twenty (G20) Summit and the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting to usher in an "Asian moment" that provides more certainty and stability for the world, and contribute Asia's input to addressing the turbulent and changing situations in the world.

Wang Yi pointed out, China will continue to prioritize ASEAN in its diplomacy. This year marks the start of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership. China is ready to work with ASEAN countries to push for fruitful outcomes in the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership and bring cooperation in various fields to new heights.

Balakrishnan said, Singapore-China cooperation features rich connotations and fruitful outcomes. Singapore is ready to work with China to take stock of bilateral cooperation experience with a focus on important junctures, take solid steps to advance key cooperation projects such as the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, and further enhance ASEAN-China connectivity and industrial chain cooperation. Singapore fully supports the upgrading of ASEAN-China relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, and hopes that the two sides will achieve more cooperation results.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common interest and concern.
