The ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers' Meeting Held in Jakarta

On July 13, 2023 local time, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi attended the ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Jakarta. Also present were foreign ministers of ASEAN member states, representatives of ASEAN observer states, and ASEAN Secretary-General.

Wang Yi said that China and ASEAN have actively acted on the purposes and principles of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, expanded mutually beneficial cooperation on all fronts, and successfully found the right path featuring long-term good-neighborliness and friendship, and common development and prosperity. The two sides have joined hands to advance the building of a community with a shared future, promote Belt and Road cooperation, step up regional economic integration, and consolidate the foundation of peace and stability. China will be committed to high-quality development, and will create new opportunities for other countries through Chinese modernization. China is ready to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with ASEAN and work together to build a modernized Asia. Following the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness proposed by President Xi Jinping, China will work with ASEAN to promote the continuous development of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership and make new contributions to regional peace and prosperity.

All other parties appreciate China's support for ASEAN centrality and ASEAN Community building, and applaud the fact that China is ready to be the first to sign the Protocol to the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone. They expect the ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership to continue scaling new heights and yielding new outcomes.

The meeting adopted the ASEAN-China Joint Statement on Commemorating and Reflecting on the 20th Anniversary of China's Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, and a guideline document for expediting the conclusion of the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Wang Yi met in succession with foreign ministers of Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, Vietnam, Russia, and Australia, among others.
