On the afternoon of September 13, 2005, the second phase of the fourth round of the six-party talks was held in Beijing. A meeting of the heads of the Chinese, DPRK, US, ROK, Japanese and Russian delegations was also convened. The chairman of this round of talks, head of the Chinese delegation and Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei hosted the meeting. Wu Dawei indicated in his speech the various parties should exchange in-depth views on the realization of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula and move forward on the basis of the consensus already reached. He noted to realize the denuclearization of the peninsula is related to the important interests and concerns of the various parties. It is hoped that all parties can further demonstrate their sincerity, and try to narrow differences and seek common grounds in the spirit of mutual respect and mutual understanding. We expect to see a balanced and win-win solution through flexible, pragmatic and constructive consultations so as to move the talks forward. The heads of the delegations said a number of consensuses have been reached in the first phase of talks. However, the tasks remain formidable. They expressed their willingness to make their utmost efforts to push for progress in the talks. Prior to the meeting of the heads of delegations, the various parties conducted bilateral consultations. |
