Ambassador Li Baodong Holds Press Conference on the Program of Work of the Security Council for June

On June 4, Ambassador Li Baodong, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations and rotating President of the UN Security Council in June held a press conference for journalists from China and other countries.  

Ambassador Li briefed on the Program of Work of the Security Council for the month of June. He said that the Council would have a tight schedule this month and its work would involve nearly 30 agenda items, mainly including Syria, Sudan and South Sudan, Guinea Bissau, Afghanistan, the Middle East, the DRC, the Central African Republic, Iraq and Kuwait. Ambassador Li said that the Security Council would also hold an open debate on protection of civilians in armed conflict and have consultations with the Peace and Security Council of the African Union.

Ambassador Li emphasized that as the rotating President of the Security Council in June and a permanent member of the Council, China will adhere to the principles of justice, neutrality, efficiency and pragmatism to ensure the smooth proceeding of the work of the Council and effectively maintain international peace and security.

Ambassador Li also answered questions from the journalists on Syria, the Middle East, Mali and the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
