Ambassador Wang Min Makes a Security Council President's Press Statement on Attacks on the UN Mission in Cote d'Ivoire

On June 8, based on the consensus reached by UN Security Council members, Ambassador Wang Min, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations made a Security Council President’s press statement in his capacity as rotating President of the Security Council in June on the attacks on the UN Mission in Cote d’Ivoire.

Ambassador Wang said that members of the Security Council condemned in strong terms the attacks on the UN Mission in Cote d’Ivoire which led to the deaths of 7 peacekeepers. He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the government of Niger, the troops contributing country. He said that Council members were deeply concerned over the security situation in the Western part of Cote d’Ivoire and its borders, and reiterated their support for the work of the UN Mission in Cote d’Ivoire and Secretary-General’s Special Representative for the country.
