Ambassador Li Baodong Chairs Security Council Meeting on UN Peacekeeping Operations

Ambassador Li Baodong, President of the UN Security Council for the month of June and Permanent Representative of the China to the United Nations, chaired a Security Council meeting on 20 June. At the meeting, Security Council members exchanged views with Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Hervé Ladsous, UN peacekeeping commanders and chief observers on issues related to peacekeeping operations.

Ambassador Li stated in his closing remarks as the President of the Security Council that peacekeeping operation was one of the most important means for the UN to preserve world peace and security. He said that peacekeepers, by working under tough, complicated and dangerous conditions and overcoming various difficulties, had implemented the mandates of the Security Council and brought peace and hope for the people in conflict-torn regions. They had scored remarkable achievements and given meaning to values of the UN Charter. Ambassador Li expressed sincere thanks on behalf of the Security Council to all the peacekeepers in various peacekeeping operations around the world. He also paid tribute to their courage, perseverance and sacrifice.
