Chinese President Hu Jintao Arrived in New York to attend the Summit on the 60th Anniversary of the UN

On September 13, 2005, Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in New York to attend the Summit on the 60th Anniversary of the UN.

At 14:15, local time, President Hu's special plane landed at the Kennedy International Airport in New York. President Hu and his wife Liu Yongqing were warmly welcomed by Permanent Representative of China to the UN Wang Guangya, Chinese Ambassador to the US Zhou Wenzhong, UN Under Secretary-General Chen Jian and other officials at the airport

State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan and other companions arrived in the same plane.

The UN Summit will be held at the UN headquarters in New York from September 14 to 16 and about 170 heads of state or government will attend the Summit. They will hold discussions on how to strengthen the UN's role, advance its reform, safeguard world peace and promote development cooperation.

Hu's attending of the Summit shows the consistent importance and support China attaches to the UN. At the Summit, Hu will comprehensively elaborate China's views and positions on the current international situation and major international issues and put forward specific proposals on strengthening the UN's role, pushing for its reform, promoting international development cooperation and other issues.

Hu arrived in New York from the City of Mexico after the conclusion of his state visit to Mexico. Prior to that, he visited Canada.
