Latest Developments of Wenchuan Earthquake Relief

2008年5月25日 (8.0级汶川大地震发生之后第13天)

According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as of 12:00 noon May 25 (Sunday),

  • The confirmed death toll of Wenchuan earthquake had risen to 62,664, with 358,816 injured, 23,775 missing and 14,385,564 relocated.
  • The total domestic and foreign donations in cash and in kind had reached 29.055 billion yuan (US$4.18 billion), with 23.72 billion yuan (US$3.4 billion) of cash in place and 7.519 billion yuan (US$1.08 billion) forwarded to the earthquake zone.
  • Some 463,140 tents, 2.419347 million quilts, 3.444526 million items of clothing; 390,000 tons of oil and 800,000 tons of coal had been transported to the quake-stricken regions.

According to the Operation Department of PLA General Staff Headquarters, as of Saturday (May 24th) midnight, rescuers had managed to rescue and transfer 638,305 people, and to excavate 6,537 survivors from beneath rubble.
 
According to the Ministry of Health, as of 12:00 noon May 25 (Sunday), a total of 82,907 people injured in the earthquake had been hospitalized, of which 51,826 had been treated and discharged, 3,515 died in hospitals, with 18,027 remaining inpatients. 5,149 had been transferred to hospitals in places other than Sichuan.

According to China's State Seismological Bureau, as of 12:00 noon May 25 (Sunday), 178 aftershocks measuring above 4 on Richter's scale had been monitored, of which 27 were measured over 5 in magnitude, and 4 were measured 6 or higher.

According to the Ministry of Finance, as of 2:00 pm May 25 (Sunday), a total of 15.14 billion yuan had been invested in earthquake relief by governments at various levels, of which 11.095 billion yuan was from central government budget and 4.045 billion yuan from local budgets.
 
According to the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, as of 12:00 noon May 25 (Sunday), electricity power supply had been restored in 12 Counties, including Lixian, but not yet in Beichuan County.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Informatization, as of Sunday, May 25,  public telecommunications services like mobile phone and fixed-line telephone had been restored in 62 of 109 towns and villages in quake zone, enabling local residents to communicate in different ways.

 

According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as of 12:00 noon May 24 (Saturday),

  • The confirmed death toll of Wenchuan earthquake had risen to 60,560, with 352,290 injured, 26,221 missing and 14,385,564 relocated. The accumulative total of quake-affected population is 45,509,241.
  • The total domestic and foreign donations in cash and in kind had reached 26.101 billion yuan (US$3.75 billion), with 17.147 billion yuan (US$2.76 billion) of cash in place and 3.679 billion yuan (US$528 million) forwarded to the earthquake zone.
  • Some 448,140 tents, 35,458 makeshift houses (17,124 increased over previous day), 2.419347 million quilts, 3.304526 million items of clothing; 336,000 tons of oil and 723,000 tons of coal had been transported to the area.

According to the Ministry of Health, as of 12:00 noon May 24 (Saturday), a total of 75,086 people injured in the earthquake had been hospitalized, of which 40,644 had been treated and discharged, 3,484 died in hospitals, with 23,864 remaining inpatients. 4,274 had been transferred to hospitals in places other than Sichuan. A total of 289,457 injured people had been medically treated.
