President,

The Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) is a long standing, widely represented, and most influential international parliamentary organization. It serves as a vital platform for dialogue, exchange, and cooperation among national legislatures. In recent years, the IPU has undertaken valuable work in promoting sustainable development, safeguarding the rights and interests of women and children, and strengthening legislation cooperation among countries. China supports and commends these efforts. As a consistent participant in both the UN and IPU activities, China supports stronger interaction and cooperation between them to jointly practice multilateralism and advance world peace and development.

President,

Historically, resolutions on the UN and IPU interaction have always been adopted by consensus among all member states. However, a certain country, rejecting interaction between the UN and IPU and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as a policy stance, went so far as to demand a vote on the draft resolution. Such an approach runs counter to international consensus. It is utterly absurd, unjustifiable, and anything but constructive. China finds this deplorable. The overwhelming majority of votes reflects the popular will of the international community and prevailing trend of our times. It reaffirms the immutable truth: those on the side of justice will find ample support, and those straying from it will find little. We urge the country in question to recognize the tide of history, respect the choice of the vast majority of countries, fulfill its responsibility as a major country, and take concrete actions to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and proper roles played by the UN and IPU.

Thank you, President.
