Dear Colleagues,

It's a great pleasure to join you for today's event on Advancing Energy Transition in the Global South.

Energy security is a common challenge facing all humanity, while the shift toward green and low-carbon energy development offers a shared opportunity for the world.

At present, we are falling far short in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, and the impacts of climate change and growing concerns over energy security are becoming more pressing with each passing day.

In this context, the international community must stay committed and united, and make sustained efforts for green energy transition and sustainable development. I wish to share three points.

First, we need to accelerate low-carbon energy transition to ensure universal accessibility.

Tackling energy poverty must be a top priority. We must help developing countries enhance their energy security and build capacity for sustainable development. 

At the same time, it is essential to enhance policy communication and coordination among countries, improve clean energy infrastructure, create more clean energy jobs, and make sure that green energy truly benefits the economy and people's livelihoods, so as to realize a just global energy transition.

Second, we need to unleash the potential of energy innovation to reform the energy system.

We should seize the latest round of scientific and industrial revolution, foster digital and smart growth drivers, explore new technologies and industrial models, and improve the efficiency of energy production and utilization.

In this process, developed countries should provide financial, technological, and capacity-building support to help developing countries build a safe, stable, clean, and efficient energy system where renewable energy takes a large share. 

Third, we need to improve clean energy governance to ensure energy security and sustainability.

We should promote the deep integration of the global energy industry chain, supply chain, and value chain, better align different clean energy standards, and build global clean energy partnerships. 

To achieve this, it is imperative to practice true multilateralism, reject protectionism and green barriers, and make our global energy governance system more just, reasonable, balanced, and inclusive.

Dear Colleagues,

China is committed to delivering on green development, and we are proud to be a major contributor to this global cause. We have built the world's largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system and the largest and most complete new energy industrial chain.

From the Adama wind farm in Ethiopia to the Garissa solar power plant in Kenya, from the International Green Development Coalition of the Belt and Road Initiative to the partnership initiative for green development of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, China's clean energy solutions are providing robust green drivers for the Global South.

In conclusion, I wish to reaffirm that, as an important member of the Global South, China will, as always, stand in solidarity with fellow developing countries through thick and thin.

We will continue to uphold the vision of ecological civilization, implement the Global Energy Interconnection Initiative, facilitate the green transition of countries around the world, especially those from the Global South, and strive for the early realization of the goal of Sustainable Energy for All.
