On September 15, China Daily and the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations co-hosted the Vision China Forum at the UN Headquarters. Under the theme “Standing United: Inheriting the UN Legacy, Advancing Global Governance”, the event brought together more than 200 guests from the UN Secretariat, diplomatic missions, and other sectors.
Ambassador Fu Cong, Permanent Representative of China to the UN, noted that 80 years ago, people’s deep reflection on the two devastating world wars led to the founding of the United Nations and a new chapter in global governance. Today, as the world enters a new period of turbulence and transformation, strengthening and improving global governance has become both a prevailing trend of the times and a common aspiration of the international community. The Global Governance Initiative launched by President Xi Jinping is fully aligned with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and demonstrates China’s firm support for the UN and multilateralism. China will work closely with the UN and all partners to implement the Global Governance Initiative, promote a fairer and more equitable global governance system, and build a community with a shared future for humanity.
Publisher of China Daily Qu Yingpu, UN Under-Secretary-General Li Junhua, Director of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation Dima Al-Khatib, renowned Singaporean scholar Kishore Mahbubani, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, and Ms. Nell Shennault Calloway, granddaughter of US General Claire Lee Chennault of the Flying Tigers, delivered speeches on the UN’s 80-year journey and the improvement of global governance. Representatives from the Permanent Missions of Nicaragua, Pakistan, Russia, Qatar, and Morocco also spoke highly of the significance of the Global Governance Initiative, commended China’s important contributions to advancing global governance, and called for joint efforts to uphold multilateralism and safeguard the UN-centered international system.
