President,
I thank Executive Director Keita for her statement. China supports UNFPA in delivering on its mandate amid a complex external environment and advancing the implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action and the Strategic Plan 2026–2029. I wish to share three points:
First, focusing on the core mandate and strengthening country-level implementation. Developing countries continue to face challenges in the fields of sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and the protection of women and girls, and are in urgent need of greater development and humanitarian support from UNFPA. China supports UNFPA in focusing on its core mandate, upholding national ownership and leadership, and implementing country programmes in accordance with national conditions and priorities, to better support developing countries in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Second, leveraging institutional expertise and strengthening innovation. China supports UNFPA in following the guidance of the ICPD Programme of Action, strengthening youth empowerment, and enhancing the application of population data and foresight analysis, to help programme countries address demographic change and their impacts. China also supports UNFPA in strengthening the application of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, enhancing programme effectiveness, and ensuring that the benefits of innovation reach more developing countries, leaving no one behind.
Third, strengthening resource support and laying a solid foundation for development. China commends UNFPA for its active efforts in expanding partnerships and enhancing its resource mobilization capacity. China calls upon all parties, developed country donors in particular, to honor their development assistance commitments and provide UNFPA with adequate and predictable core resources. China also supports UNFPA in seizing the opportunity of reform to continuously improve management and enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
President,
China and UNFPA have long maintained good cooperation. The tenth country programme between the two sides is being advanced and implemented in an orderly manner. The two sides have also carried out a number of fruitful trilateral cooperation projects under the framework of the Global Development Initiative, actively promoting the health and development rights of women and children. China stands ready to further deepen its partnership with UNFPA and promote more fruitful results from our practical cooperation.
I thank you, President.
