On September 21, 2026, Ambassador Fu Cong, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, gave an exclusive interview to Tian Wei, host of World Insight with Tian Wei, a flagship program of China Global Television Network (CGTN). He elaborated on China's positions on President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States, global AI governance, the four major global initiatives, the role and reform of the United Nations, and other issues.

Ambassador Fu said that President Xi Jinping will soon pay a state visit to the United States at the invitation of the U.S. side. The visit will mark a milestone of historic significance, and the international community is also looking forward to positive outcomes from the visit. The influence of the China-U.S. relations goes far beyond the bilateral scope. As permanent members of the Security Council, China and the United States should strengthen dialogue and cooperation, properly manage differences, and refrain from viewing all global issues through the lens of competition. Artificial intelligence concerns the well-being of all humanity. As major powers in AI, China and the United States should all the more reject zero-sum mindset and strengthen cooperation. The United Nations should serve as the main channel for global AI governance and play a greater role in bridging the AI divide, strengthening capacity building in the Global South, and preventing technological risks.

Ambassador Fu emphasized that the four major global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping are highly consistent with the purposes and principles of the United Nations. They have received positive responses and support from an increasing number of Member States within the United Nations and have been translated into a series of consensuses on multilateral cooperation and practical outcomes. They have contributed Chinese wisdom and solutions to strengthening the three pillars of the United Nations, addressing global challenges, and improving global governance. China will continue to practice true multilateralism and support efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the United Nations through reform, enabling it to better fulfill its responsibilities and mission of maintaining world peace and promoting common development.
