President,
China welcomes the Security Council's unanimous adoption of the resolution extending the sanctions regime related to the Central African Republic (CAR). We appreciate the efforts made by France, as the penholder, to facilitate consensus among Council members.
In recent years, with the support of the international community, the Government and people of the CAR have overcome difficulties and made significant progress in political transition, the peace process and national governance. The overall security situation has remained stable, and the country has embarked on a new stage of development. At the same time, some parts of the country continue to face armed attacks and cross-border security challenges. Maintaining the existing measures, including the arms embargo, asset freeze and travel ban targeting armed groups and individuals, will help the Government of the CAR curb illegal armed activities, advance the national reconciliation process, and expand and consolidate the security gains. China calls on all parties to strictly observe the relevant sanctions measures, in particular by preventing the inflow of weapons and ammunition from external sources and reducing the spillover effects of conflicts in neighboring countries.
As a good friend of the CAR, China firmly supports its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. China stands ready to continue working with the international community to support the CAR in achieving lasting peace, stability, prosperity and development at an early date.
Thank you.
