Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue's Comment on the Remarks in Japan Calling for Cutting off ODA to China

2004-12-03 00:00

Q: Recently, voices were often heard in Japan calling for cutting off the ODA to China. What comment does China have on this?

A: Recently, some people in Japan made irresponsible arguments on the Official Development Assistance to China, which we feel hard to understand.

As is known to all, the ODA, as a kind of mutually beneficial capital cooperation, came out of special political and historical background. The above irresponsible arguments will only bring harms to China-Japan relations. China is able to rely on itself and score a success in its economic development. Meanwhile, we are also willing to engage in foreign cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. We hope the Japanese side to properly handle the issue in the overall interest of our relations.
